01.02 – Objectives
The fundamental premise of Natural Hygiene is that excellent health is normal and natural. And further, that optimal health can only be achieved by learning and practicing the causes of health. When you do that, your health is greatly improved, and easily maintained. Then it becomes abundantly clear that disease is abnormal, unnatural, and unnecessary.
Because these words are used so often, I will take a moment to clarify. The word ‘Natural’ means of, or concerning Nature. For all your NHEP Courses, the word ‘Natural’ also means that to which you are biologically constructed and adapted, which is the sum total of your biological heritage from nature. This includes your amazing body intelligence, your animal instincts, your rational thinking abilities, and your always-accessible high intuition. ‘Unnatural’ means all practices and influences that are not consistent and in harmony with those traits.
The word ‘normal’ means, “That which is in agreement with anatomy, physiology, and biological heritage.” Normal refers to the excellent health that always results from intelligent, intuitive, and instinctive living. Again, excellent health is normal and natural when you know how to live well. Excellent health is not a matter of fate, good fortune, random accident, or luck.
In other words, what is often called ‘normal’ by mainstream media, our culture, and society should correctly be called common, typical, or average. It is normal to be healthy and disease-free. It is definitely abnormal to suffer from chronic disease. Yet chronic disease is extremely common and typical in middle age and older people. You may often hear the phrase, “It’s normal to have these problems when you get old.” That is false. Chronic disease is common, but it is not normal.
A simple fruit breakfast is normal; fried chicken embryos with greasy bacon (pig muscle and fat), or grass seeds (grains) and cow milk are common, typical, and often encouraged as being healthy. It is normal to easily maintain a healthy weight, yet it is commonly seen that half of society is obese. Obesity is not, in any way, normal or healthy. But obesity is quite common in the general population.
When it comes to health, what is commonly and typically seen does not make it normal… in fact, it is a direct example of what is abnormal. Strangely, however, the more common something becomes, the more we tend to consider it to be ‘normal’. Be careful with what is considered normal!
Keep these more accurate definitions in mind as you proceed through your studies. Full comprehension of the meanings of words, and their use, is important.
