03.03 – The Essence of Natural Hygiene – Part 2
Humans have infinite potential for happiness and goodness. High aesthetic qualities such as happiness, enthusiasm, love, and honesty are inherently normal in all sentient beings. Conversely, the myriad negative emotions such as depression, fear, loneliness, hate and self-doubt, that plague so many, are not normal. We are endowed with wonderful and sophisticated faculties; these endowments can keep us in a state of joy during a long and healthy life.
Life itself is simple and uncomplicated. The true ‘cures’ for unhappiness must also be simple and uncomplicated. The common assumption and belief is that life is complicated, and requires complicated solutions. That is false.
Natural Hygiene is for humans what inborn instinct is for animals. We, too, have instincts, but we are far more than these basic impulses of life.
Unfortunately, we not only often fail to recognize our instincts, but we often reject them in our living practices as well. Our instincts have been hidden and perverted by unwholesome programming and conditioning, due to a world that is quite berserk by sane standards. When humans act contrary to their instincts they are acting destructively.
When our practices are in harmony with our instincts – with our inherent biological needs and impulses – we are living constructively. Natural Hygiene is as simple as that.
Discovering and obeying our natural instincts is part and parcel of Natural Hygiene. Our inborn guiding instincts always tend toward healthful and constructive living, when they are unclouded and given proper attention. It is ignorance of our instincts and the laws of life that create our sickness and suffering.
Natural Hygiene is, therefore, a way of life that rightfully concerns itself with every facet of human life and human well-being.
